Link Crew News

Last year, Stamford introduced a new structure to transitioning students into grade 9 called Link Crew.  It was a tremendous success that we plan on repeating every year from now on.

What is Link Crew?

  • Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from senior classes to be Link Crew Leaders. As positive role models, Link Crew Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school and help facilitate freshman success.  At the moment, Stamford is the only high school in DSBN that offers Link Crew.

Link Crew has four components:

  • High School Orientation - Link Leaders and freshmen start building the mentor relationship and freshmen receive information about how to be successful in high school
  • Academic Follow Ups - Link Leaders support freshman academic success and character development through structured classroom visits
  • Social Follow Ups - Link Leaders and freshmen connect outside the classroom at school sanctioned social events to increase student engagement, and promote positive school climate
  • Leader Initiated Contacts - Link Leaders connect with their freshmen on a more individual basis as needed

How does this impact Registration Day?

  • When students register, they will be given a card with the name of their Link Crew Leaders.  Link Crew Leaders will be waiting in the gym with everyone's timetable. They ill review the timetable with the students, take students on a tour if needed, and invite any questions or concerns.
  • We hope you can join in on a BBQ led by Link Crew from 10:00-12:00 at our side entrance.
  • Click here for a sneak peak at what the first month of school will look like!

A special note to students who wish to change their timetables:

If there is a long line in Guidance, please be patient.  If Guidance can't see you right away, they will give you an appointment based on first come, first serve. It's important that you follow your timetable because you might be called down to your appointment during the class you are trying to change - and if you are not there, your name goes back to the bottom of the appointment list.

Administrators can often help - but they don't always have the same information at their fingertips that Guidance does.  It's best to follow protocol and see a counsellor.

An overview of Grade 9 Registration Fees:

Student Activity Fee (this includes the grad fee):  $50
Dudley Lock (if required):  $7
Phys-Ed T-Shirt (mandatory if taking Phys-Ed):  $10
Yearbook (optional):  $40

The Student Activity Fee provides students with an activity card and helps to support all clubs and sports. The grad fee ($10 a year until grad 12) covers the cost of providing a graduation ceremony.  It is also important to note that the school subsidizes the cost of the Yearbook even with collecting fees from students.

Thanks to the support of foundations such as EFN (Education Foundation of Niagara) - we have ways to support families in need. Please do not hesitate to speak to an administrator if there are financial concerns.
