What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative Education is a planned learning experience, for which credits are earned, that integrates classroom theory and learning experiences at a workplace. The experience enables students to apply and refine the knowledge and skills acquired in a related curriculum course.
The program is designed for students in all of the academic pathways. The program is designed to build upon a student’s strengths, interests, goals, academics and develop employability skills. Placements provide students with challenging opportunities to apply what they have learned in school to a real life setting.
The program is an essential component in all of the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs offered at Stamford. We currently offer SHSM programming in the following areas:
- Information Communication Technology
- Arts and Culture
- Hospitality and Tourism
- Horticulture
- Construction
- Health and Wellness
Students interested in the trades have the opportunity to participate in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP). For additional information and a list of recognized trades go to http://oyap.dsbn.org/index.php.
