  • Amazing Cappie reviews of Stamford's production of Todd

by User Not Found | Apr 06, 2018

Read all about it! The Cappie Reviews are in!

This year's Cappie Production of Todd has generated some powerful reviews.

"Standout to the play's believability includes Walker Kapitanchuk for his portrayal of the madman Sweeney Todd. Kapitanchuk, whose brooding and eerie delivery made for an evil gentleman that you hate to love, marvellously illustrated the intense yet elegant character." - Braulio Ojeda

"Polished and intrepid, the cast and crew of "Todd" engaged the audience from the introductory speech to the melancholic finale. Bluntly put, Stamford Collegiate took a fresh stab at a beloved story and proved to be nothing short of spectacular." - Ghazal Razeghi

"Each cast member portrayed their role impeccably, dazzling the audience with their ability to execute complex human emotions such as grief, greed, and love." - Diana Karapetyan

  • Stamford introduces MSIP Wednesdays

by User Not Found | Nov 16, 2017

    Introducing Stamford’s MSIP Wednesdays!

Starting November 29th, students will follow an MSIP schedule every Wednesday until the end of the year.

On an MSIP Wednesday, students will follow this schedule:

    Shortened Period 1 (8:35-9:35)
    MSIP (9:40-10:40)
    Shortened Period 2 (10:45-11:45)
    Lunch (11:45-12:30)
    Shortened Period 3 (12:35-1:35)
    Shortened Period 4 (1:40-:2:40)

All MSIP classes will begin with Stop, Drop & Read.  The remainder of MSIP will differ by grade:

    • Grade 9s & 10s focus on literacy & numeracy.  They will also be given time for homework completion and/or focussed help in areas where they are falling behind.

    • Grade 11s & 12s will use the time to complete assignments, use computer and research resources, attend guidance counselling appointments or grad meetings and meet with subject teachers where possible.

    • Attendance will be taken in every MSIP period.  If a grade 11/12 student is using MSIP to work with a teacher in a different location, s/he must first report to the assigned MSIP for attendance.

Why the move to single day MSIP?

We listen to our students and they have been asking for MSIP.  MSIP promotes an alternative academic schedule for high school students. Instead of the standard four 75-minute periods found in the semestered school, MSIP schools adopt five 60-minute periods including one 60-minute multi-subject instructional MSIP period.  Most MSIP schools run an MSIP period every day - with students having MSIP any one of their five periods.  Similar to the DSBN Academy, Stamford will adopt a flexible model where we offer an MSIP period only one day a week.  This allows us to have all students share the same MSIP period.   This will reduce the interruptions in regular classes, give students time to catch up on missed work and meet with teachers as needed, allow for post-secondary planning and allow for a whole-school approach to literacy and numeracy in grades 9 and 10.

At some point during the week of November 20th - students will be called down by grade to hear more about MSIP and to receive their assigned MSIP location.

  • NEW OSAP REMOVING FINANCIAL BARRIERS TO COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY

by User Not Found | Dec 20, 2016

NEW OSAP REMOVING FINANCIAL BARRIERS TO COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY

If your child is currently in Grade 12, you should know that applications are now open for college and university programs. The last date for university applications is January 11th. College applications for the fall term should be submitted before February 1st.

Your child may benefit from financial assistance for postsecondary education from the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). As part of the most significant reform of student assistance in North America, the government of Ontario is removing the financial barriers to attending college or university.

If your family income is under $50,000, your child’s tuition is covered. Even if you earn more, the new OSAP is still there to help with generous grants that will make sending your child to college or university more affordable.

The Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development has launched a new online calculator to help students and their families find out quickly and easily whether they qualify for free tuition or other grants and supports from the province. We encourage you to find out more at ontario.ca/osap.

  • Thank you to everyone who donated to our Christmas Store!

by User Not Found | Dec 13, 2016

Every year Stamford creates a store for students in financial need to pick out free items to give out to family members at Christmas.

We would like to thank Grace Gospel Church for their generous donation towards our Christmas Store and Charity Baskets.  Grace Gospel also donated time and resources in setting up a free photo booth for students and staff to get pictures made as gifts.

Thank you again to the manager at the Canada One Factory Outlets, Ms. Ready, who donated bags of Ardene merchandise last year.  We still have tons of earrings, necklaces, hats and more!

A thank you also goes out to all of the staff and community members who donate both time and money.  Thank you for all of those stuffed animals Helga and Wayne Campbell! Thank you for the extra wrapping paper Sara Taylor. And we couldn't do it without you Ms. Martin, Ms. Osborne, Ms. Au and Ms. Skrok. Our store is bigger than we've ever seen it.

Students will soon be invited into the store where they can browse, pick gifts and get their packages wrapped.

Stamford wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday!
